Overview

Touchscreen Main Menu Buttons

When your loved one's GrandCare system is sitting idle, a digital slideshow will automatically appear. You can choose what content to include. These settings can be changed by users with sufficient security permissions. Your loved one can manually start the slide show at any time by pressing the Slide Show button on the touchscreen. Pressing this button is also how to advance the display to the next slide. The slideshow also appears on the displays of non-interactive systems, although there will not be a slide show button available on systems without touchscreens.

Change the Slideshow Content

  • Log in to GCManage
  • Open the Care Menu
  • Click the "Touchscreen" button

The section called "Slideshow Features" lists all the possible content for the slideshow. Any content that is checked will be included in the slideshow. If you uncheck an item, that content will no longer be included.

  • When you are finished making your selections, click the Save Features button to save those selections

Slideshow Content Choices

• • Now let’s look more closely at the possible selections. If Headine News is selected, then the slide show will include slides with current headlines for World News, national news, sports news, health news, and entertainment news. • At the touchscreen, this is how a news headline slide appears. In this example, the slide is for national news. When there are more headlines than what will fit on the screen, the screen will slowly scroll until all of the headlines have been displayed. • If Weather Forecast is selected, then a five-day forecast for your loved one’s local area will display. • This is how the forecast appears in the slide show. • When Word Definitions is selected, a slide will be included with a vocabulary word and its definition. Some of the words are fairly common, and some are quite challenging. • This is an example of a word definition slide. • When Nostalgia is selected, a slide will be included in the show that gives a list of interesting events that occurred in a particular year and in a particular area of interest. • This is an example of a nostalgia slide for major sports events in the year 1900. • When you select Trivia, slides will be included in the show that present the viewer with trivia questions in a variety of subject areas. There is a delay before the answer is displayed, that gives the viewer an opportunity to try to guess the answer. • This is an example of a Trivia slide. • When Quotations is selected, slides with famous or interesting quotations will be displayed in the slide show. • For example, this is a quotations slide. • When Spiritual Offerings is selected, a slide with spiritual content will appear in the slide show. • This is an example of a Spiritual Offerings slide. • We will come back to Stock Pictures in a moment. First we will skip to Daily Events. If you and other caregivers add events to your loved one’s calendar, then you may choose to include Daily Events in the slide show. • Events for the current day and for the following day will appear on a Daily Events slide. • If you include the Monthly Calendar, then the calendar for the current month will appear in the slide show • The slide with the calendar displays the events entered for each day in the month, along with national holidays, and the holidays for the religions selected for this system during setup. • Back to Stock Pictures. If you select Stock Pictures, then professional photos will be included in your loved one’s slide show. • Clicking on Stock Pictures will display a screen that shows you the different categories of stock photos. Checking all the boxes will include pictures from every category, but it’s also possible to pick and choose the categories that your loved one prefers. The categories are: Wild Animals, Cute Babies, Birds, Butterflies, Cats, Dogs, City Skylines, Fish, Flowers, Famous Landmarks, and Famous Paintings. • When you have made your selections, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click the OK button to save your changes. • This is an example of a photo from the Famous Landmarks category. • When you have completed your selections, click the Save Features button to save the slide show. • Even if you decide not to include any of the possible slide show features, there will still be a slide show. Current messages that have been added to the system through the Touchscreen Setup Window will display on a Messages slide. • In addition, if personal photos have been added to the system, they will automatically display in the slideshow, unless you choose not to have them display. The next few slides will show you how to choose whether to include personal photos or not, or how to pick and choose which folders of personal photos will be in the slideshow. • First, open the Care Menu again. • This time, click on the Pictures icon. • This will open the Picture Operations window. • Each folder of personal photos has a checkbox next to it. When the checkbox is checked, this folder of photos will show in the digital slideshow. Uncheck it if you want it left out of the slideshow. Note that this box is checked automatically when the pictures are added to the system. • Click the Save Show button when you are finished choosing the folders to include in the slide show. • There is one more area in which you can make selections that affect the digital slide show. Click the Options button on the Picture Operations Window. • The Picture Options window will appear, where you can change 2 settings. The first sets how long each slide will display in the slide show. The time is automatically set to 30 seconds. You can increase or decrease this setting to make the slide show slower or faster. The second option lets you choose whether to include captions on each photo slide or not. This affects both personal photos and stock photos. • Click the OK button to save your changes. • This is an example of a stock photo slide that includes a caption. • This is an example of a stock photo slide with no caption.
