With the glucometer, your loved one can take a blood glucose reading, which will be recorded automatically in the GrandCare system. The process operates completely wirelessly. Caregivers can log in to see the blood glucose readings, and to set up rules, for example to alert caregivers when a reading has been taken, or to remind the loved one if a reading hasn't been taken at the expected time.<br /><br />
The glucometer is battery-operated and Bluetooth-enabled to communicate wirelessly with the system.<br />

There is one particular model of glucometer that can be integrated with a GrandCare system, the MyGlucoHealth brand wireless meter. It requires MyGlucoHealth test strips, a lancing device, and sterile lancets. The meter is battery-operated, and communicates with the system wirelessly via Bluetooth. The glucometer comes with complete directions for initializing the device, using it safely and correctly, and taking an accurate reading, which your loved one should follow. Please be sure to read these instructions before using the device. Some of the key points include:
<br />
* With the glucometer off, insert a new MyGlucoHealth test strip into the device, which will turn on automatically and display its code
* Use the up and down arrows to select an Activity (tiny icons on the left side of the glucometer's display screen - see the Activity Icons pictured here) that corresponds to your current situation
* Press the Power button once, to make a small image of the test strip appear on the display screen
* Lance your fingertip and apply the blood to the test strip, following the directions included with the meter

:* Make sure you have entered the device Serial Number correctly.
* Text message
:* Make sure that this glucometer is not configured on any other systems in Bluetooth range.

:* If using the MGH-BT1/MGH-1 model, try doing the pairing steps again.

<br />

<br />
Examples of rules might be:
<br />
* If a blood glucose reading is taken, email all caregivers, so they can view the reading
<br />
* If a blood glucose reading isn't taken before noon, text an adult child who can remind the parent
* If a blood glucose reading isn't taken at a set time, phone the loved one with a reminder - only caregivers can receive alerts from rules, but a loved one can easily be [[Caregivers|added as a caregiver]] for this purpose<br /><br />

Multiple rules can be triggered for any event, so that multiple types of alerts can be sent out, for example both phone calls and emails.<br /><br />

A checkbox next to the rule lets you set whether the rule is enabled or disabled. It might make sense to turn off a rule while your loved one is on vacation, so that alerts won't be sent out during that time. You can disable a rule by unchecking the box. When you're ready for the rule to be active again, just check the Enabled checkbox again, and then save the rule settings.<br /><br />

Glucometer

A glucometer can be added to the GrandCare System to record blood glucose readings.
The glucometer is battery-operated and Bluetooth-enabled to communicate wirelessly with the system.

Caregivers can log onto the Online Care Portal to view Health Reports and to set up custom Wellness Notifications and Acknowledgements.

Residents can view their Health Readings by using the Wellness Button on the Touchscreen.

Use the "Down Arrow" to Upload readings

Taking a Blood Glucose Reading

Follow all manufacturer-provided directions for setting up and using the glucometer, including battery installation, taking accurate readings, and device care.

Uploading a Reading
When the blood glucose reading appears on the meter's display screen, press the "Down Arrow" button once to send the reading to the system.

Uploading Multiple Readings
If the resident has been away from home - on vacation, for example - and has taken numerous glucometer readings while away, you can upload all the readings at once by following these steps:
  1. Make sure the glucometer is off (in a powered-down state).
  2. While the glucometer is off, press the Down Arrow button once. This will upload all the readings currently stored on the glucometer

All glucometers require their manufacturer recommended test strips, lancing device, and sterile lancets.

Adding a Glucometer to the GrandCare System

All Wellness Devices require a Bluetooth Antenna to communicate with the Touchscreen. These devices can be added through the Setup Wizard on the Touchscreen, or manually through the Online Care Portal.

Through the Touchscreen Setup Wizard
The first time you turn on a new GrandCare System, the Setup Wizard will start automatically and guide you through setting up your Wellness Devices.
This is the easiest way to add devices, as the system will guide you through the setup process step-by-step.

If you are adding a device to an already configured system, see the Setup Wizard page for instructions on re-starting the Wizard.

Manually Through the Care Portal

  1. Log into the Online Care Portal and open the Care Menu.
  2. Click the "Wellness" button.
  3. Under Wellness Devices, click "Add New Device".
  4. Enter a name for the device to identify it.
  5. Select the proper device type and model.
    When finished click "Next" to continue.
  6. Enter the device Serial Number (found on a sticker on the bottom of the device).
  7. Click the "Finish" button.

Manually Pairing the MGH-BT1/MGH-1 Glucometer
The MGH-BT1/MGH-1 Glucometer requires an additional step to complete pairing of the device.

  1. At the touchscreen, touch the Settings Button.
  2. Enter the System PIN.
  3. Touch the "Devices" button.
  4. Select the glucometer in the Devices list - the Glucometer Details Screen will appear.
  5. Touch the "Pair Device" button.
  6. Follow the directions on the screen: Press the up arrow on the device, wait for its code to appear on its display, and then press the "Start Pairing" button.
  7. Wait while it pairs - you will see a "Success message" when pairing is complete. There will be a Bluetooth ID number assigned to the glucometer. (You may need to refresh the screen to see the assigned Bluetooth ID.)

Troubleshooting

If you are having trouble adding the glucometer to the system:

  • Make sure you have the Bluetooth Antenna set up correctly.
  • Make sure you have entered the device Serial Number correctly.
  • Make sure that this glucometer is not configured on any other systems in Bluetooth range.
  • If using the MGH-BT1/MGH-1 model, try doing the pairing steps again.
